At the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the city of Bath, The Roman Baths is a site of international and archaeological significance.
Architects Feilden Clegg Bradley were tasked with transforming a neighbouring group of nineteenth-century buildings to provide the Baths with dedicated learning space and a flagship hub for the Bath World Heritage Centre. Having worked together on numerous prestigious projects spanning several decades, SB Ironmongery Solutions were thrilled to be chosen to support FCB with their impressive designs.
Following an initial meeting with the FCB project director in their Bath studio in 2017 to discuss finishes and show samples, we then produced a detailed ironmongery schedule with accurate costings to fit within the strict budget. There were many changes to the ironmongery schedule as the project and budget evolved over the next 3 years with satin brass, brushed stainless steel and pewter finishes all being explored with a mix of all three eventually being selected.
Coronavirus interrupted progress on site but not the work going on behind the scenes and in fact this became our first order received in those uncertain lockdown months in the Summer of 2020.
Working closely with the contractor Beard Construction we navigated many challenges together and provided them with a phased delivery to suit their construction programme and ensure everything was achieved on time for completion the following year.
There were some lovely carefully considered touches on this project from the beautiful mix of finishes, the concealed door closers, hidden safety hinges and electro-magnetic hold-open devices right down to the slotted screws to ensure these new public spaces stay true to the buildings that now house them.
