Halle, St Peters

CASE STUDY

Our strong relationship with Stephenson Hamilton Risley Studio continued on this exciting project that would become the rehearsal space for Manchester’s world-beating symphony orchestra. The new contemporary building adjoins the existing listed St. Peters Church, Ancoats.

Our ironmongery complimented the rhythm of the building with the use of our Scroll design lever handles and pull handles predominantly in our PVD satin gold finish. Notes of stainless steel and white were used to blend areas such as riser cupboards into the backdrop.

With the many variations of door functions required throughout the building we were able to meet the client’s requirements as well as satisfy Building Control with the use of hold-open doors closers allowing both quick egress and fire safety. Shear mag-locks were used giving a high level of security without interrupting the aesthetic.

Having worked with SB Ironmongery on several projects in the past, we had no hesitation in contacting Scott and Stephen when we won the RIBA Competition to design The Oglesby Centre at Hallé St Peter’s in Manchester. The new building features orchestral and choir rehearsal spaces, education spaces and a café. The building itself is clad in weathering steel, features handmade brickwork and a series of unique crafted features. We wanted the ironmongery to share the same artisanal character of the building and SB Ironmongery provided a range of beautiful handles and door furniture that contributed to the high-quality tactile finish that led to the building winning many regional and national awards.
